La chaîne cablée américaine A&E s'apprête à rediffuser la série culte "The Sopranos", diffusée pendant 5 saisons 1/2 sur HBO. A&E cherchait sans doute à relancer l'intérêt pour une série que les téléspectateurs américains connaissent presque trop bien. Leur idée : un jeu. L'occasion de présenter une société New-Yorkaise Area/code qui se spécialise dans des "Big Games" ou jeu à grande échelle.

Suite la découverte récente de
Fuzz - adaptation française du concept de
Digg-it - et quelques petites recherches, j'ai trouvé une série d'articles passionnants qui confirment ma première impression : Digg-it est un jeu de rôles en ligne ! Fatalement pour un game designer, cela explique en partie pourquoi le principe fonctionne si bien et pourquoi que ce site devient addictif. Cela fait bien longtemps que l'on a réalisé que les gens, ce qu'ils aiment, c'est de jouer -_^

A very promissing new product from Philips: a tabletop to mix board games and video games !! I've been dreaming for a product like that since I've seen the first "touch pad". I really think that could change the way we think, design & play games!

The Casuality Europe Conference will take place in Amsterdam! (8th - 9th of February 2006). A good news for casual gaming and casual game designers! too bad that I'll still be in Singapore in Feb.

The company Dot Mobile is about to launch concise summaries of classic works of literature in text format. This service for mobile phones users will start in january 2006 and is aiming to target english students... For Game Designers, I think the idea of playing with concise text messages as a way to encrypted some contents or invent new languages forms in Games, could be really fun.

Since my arrival (mid october) in Singapore, I tried to figure out if I can find any place to play or buy card & board games. Last Sunday during a great equatorial brunch in the Botanic Garden, the light comes from an article from Lee Sze Yong in the Sunday Times: "S'poreans on board".

Steven Johnson, the author of the great book "Emergence" just wrote "What's in a game?", an article calling for a change of mind to take videogames seriously, published by The Guardian (Thursday October 20, 2005).

The 10th of October 2005, Greg Aleknevicus decided to stop the publication of "The Games Journal" after the end of the great magazine "Abstract Games", it again shows the complexity to provide good contents on board games & game design on the long term. By chance Greg decided to let an access to all the archives. It's not too late to discover or re-discover some great articles on board games ! Do you believe in Love at the first sight? Before being released, a game doesn't benefit from a beautiful box, posters, adverts or shining components. The rules you have written, are the first things that someone trying out your game will see. It's important to avoid first time players to be frustated when trying to understand what you have in mind.
